Hi,
What is share ratio and how to get this higher. Now it is 0,00 I have made a couple of torrents, don't exactly know if this has something to do with this. Is there any documentation, faq or a readme for the settings in ktorrent? thnx |

Technically, this is the amount you upload vs the amount you download, not the size of the file (which should be the same in ktorrent, azureus will count bad data as data still downloaded). Some torrent programs are different when you create your own torrents, and I can't remember how ktorrent acts, but with a newly created torrent, technically you haven't downloaded anything, so your share ratio would be infinite since you can't divide by zero. If it is from torrents you have downloaded it means you haven't given anything back to the other people needing the file, which could possibly cause the torrent to go dead. It is common practice to give back at least what you downloaded. To read up more on bittorrent, I would recommend this site... http://dessent.net/btfaq/ If you want to actually learn the inner workings of bittorrent check out this site... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent Good Luck Jeremy |

The share ratio is calculated by bytes_downloaded / bytes_uploaded
Imported bytes (stuff allready there) are not counted in bytes_downloaded, if you create your own torrent all bytes are considered to be imported, so what you get is a division by zero, so your share ratio is infinity. But we show 0 in that case. |

Well then mine must be broken because when I use the import feature the bytes downloaded equals the size of the file. Same seems to be true for creating my own torrent. For both those types of torrents, my share ratio is a positive number that matches the amount uploaded/size of the file. Edit: I did stop and restart ktorrent since importing/creating... maybe those values aren't persisted properly during restart? |
