Should KTorrent use 30% CPU when downloading with ~10MB/s

Hi!

I've been using KTorrent for quite some time now and find it extremely useful. Recently I got a 100 Mb/s internet connection though, and when I download at high speeds >8MB/s or so, KTorrent uses around 30% CPU. I'm using an Intel 3.8Ghz HT processor. Is that normal?

I have the connections set to 100/torrent (if I increase that the CPU usage goes way up even on slower speeds).

The problem is that I have a heat controlled fan and it starts sounding like a race car when the CPU usage goes up...

I've fiddled around with the "Fast Processor - Slow Processor" slider but that doesn't seem to affect things (also read on this forum that it's only useful when using speed limits though).

For now I've limited the max download speed to keep the CPU usage somewhat lower but even with speeds around 6 MB/s the usage is around 12-15%.

So, is that kind of CPU usage to be expected or am I just special? =)

Thanks!

That's pretty normal for computing SHA1 sums at the rate of 10MB/s.

Ok, well then atleast I know...

Saw a bit of improvement when upgrading to 2.2.2 though. It was still in the unstable branch in gentoo, that's why I wasn't already using it.

Thanks for the reply!
