EDIT build-essential is ubuntu only... this meta-package depends on these packages: $ apt-cache depends build-essential build-essential |Depends: libc6-dev Depends: <libc-dev> libc6-dev Depends: gcc Depends: g++ Depends: make Depends: dpkg-dev Maybe you can install them separately. |

Wow, then you should seriously upgrade anyway.... 1.2 is way way too old for a bittorrent client. On the downloads page you can find packages for several distributions.
