New kid here! I used Unix back before there was such a thing as a GUI, but have been stuck with Windows since. I just recently decided to give Linux a try and downloaded Ubuntu 7.10. (So far, I really like it!) I am currently running pretty much the standard installation (for both Ubuntu and GNOME).
I decided to give ktorrent a try and it worked great for several days. However, now when I try to start ktorrent up, I don't ever get a window. System Monitor says that it always freezes up at about 11 seconds of CPU time and with 8.8 MB of memory assigned. The process won't kill and it won't go any further (I left it on all night once). The only thing I have been able to do is reboot. When I type "ktorrent -v" I get: Qt: 3.3.7 KDE: 3.5.8 KTorrent: 2.2.1 I tried using the Add/Remove Programs to uninstall it and then reinstall it, but that hasn't changed anything. As new as I am, I don't think I'm quite ready to compile the latest version of ktorrent on my own - so I would rather stick with letting the Installer load the binaries. Anybody have any suggestions for getting ktorrent going again? |

ktorrent is not that hard to compile check out this thread.
http://ktorrent.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2135 Also if you do some forum searches for gdb you should be able to provide a backtrace so george can figure this out. |

Thanks, bassmadrigal! You pointed me in just the right direction and I'm back up and running.
In case it will help someone else, here are the two most important things that helped me. George posted these instructions for gdb on Mon Jul 23, 2007 6:59 am: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just do like this : gdb /path/to/ktorrent run --nofork Wait until it hangs, then hit CTRL +C and : bt That should give some idea where it is stuck. It would also be a good idea to recompile with debug enabled (./configure --enable-debug=full) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then on Oct 27, 2007 10:14 pm, George shows how to find the window parameters for ktorrent so that you can remove a corrupt file: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is probably still running. In a terminal type : killall ktorrent Then remove ~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc And restart ktorrent |
