I'm used to using uTorrent in Windows, where even with DHT enabled I only need to open one port in my router. I notice that KTorrent wants to use three if you enable DHT, and it won't allow me to use the same port for DHT communications as the UDP tracker port. I'd prefer to poke as few holes in my router as possible.
So first, why is it that I can't just designate one port for all KTorrent communications? And second, will I get poorer performance if I set the main port and the UDP tracker port the same? Also, does anyone suggest changing any other settings for a 7 Mbit (theoretically--you know Comcast) connection? I ask because the default of 2 maximum upload slots seems small. |

Wow, thanks for such quick responses.
I'm not sure what you mean by private torrent sites, so my guess is that I'm not using them. And my impression is that DHT can connect me to more peers and thus lead to faster downloads, although I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff and could be completely wrong. Anyway, I'd rather leave it on...I think. Do I understand that it may not be necessary to forward either UDP port, that they will work without being forwarded through the router? Or is that just the UDP tracker port? And, to be clear, do you (amorphis) recommend not setting *any* two of the three to the same value? My current setup is the main and UDP tracker ports are the same, with the separate DHT port opened in the router to allow UDP connections only. Thanks again. |

Wow... I thought I pasted the link into that post. Guess it is kinda hard to read the answer when I don't have anything for you to read.
