Why the Queue Manager

Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:42 pm
Why is the Queue Manager in ktorrent? I get the idea that it is a way to govern the number of torrents you are downloading so that your machine isn't giving all its cycles to ktorrent, but is it necessary to use the Queue Manager? After a little experimentation, I verified that manual torrents do the job too, you just have to watch to keep the ball rolling.

If you can simply dedicate your machine to ktorrent (overnight, or away for the weekend) wll you get your files any slower, or any faster if you just place all the torrents on manual and "let 'er rip!"?

The QM is so that you are not required to watch your torrents. They are automatically managed.

Example:
1. You have slow internet access.
2. And bunch of torrents with episodes from some video (e.g. look at tokyotosho.com).
If you want to quickly load first series and don't want to manually manage other files you can put all of them in queue and allow to download only 2 files at once. Now you can watch first two series quickly and get all files without manualy starting|stopping them.

For me QM is almost useless because I download not often and have quick internet connection. I just keep seeding 300+ torrents and load some small stuff from time to time. :)

What isn`t remembered never happened. Memory is merely a record. You just need to rewrite that record.
