ktorrent gui wont open

Fri Dec 21, 2007 1:00 pm
Every time I open ktorrent or start downloading, the downloads continue but the gui won't open, so I don't know the progress of my downloads.

Does anyone have a solution?

try starting ktorrent with this command

ktorrent --nofork

and see if the ktorrent icon appears i the panel. If you see the icon, click on it to open the gui

the nofork option prevents ktorrent from running in the background, which is the default option with my version

killall ktorrent (to make sure it isn't running)

Then edit ~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc and delete all lines containing hidden_on_exit

Then restart ktorrent, and it should appear

I had this same problem and the above tip helped get the gui back. However, the taskbar icon still won't show up. When I check the 'show system tray icon' box in the settings and click the 'Apply' button, I notice a momentary flash on the taskbar - but no icon appears.

I'm running KTorrent 2.2.1 on Ubuntu Studio 7.10 'Gutsy' and recently had to switch this computer from a 22" viewsonic monitor to a 17" samsung. Everything worked fine before the switch.

Any ideas on settings I should check out?

TIA

Don't know, maybe a bug in the gnome system tray, some old setting or something like that. What if you remove it from the panel and then add it again ?

Thanks for the fast response George!

How do I remove the icon from the tray if I can't see it there? Toggling the setting from within KTorrent's config dialog has no (apparent) effect.

Found it so I'll answer myself...

There is a Gnome applet called 'Notification Area' that had gotten turned off/removed. Re-enabling that brought back the KTorrent icon. Didn't see it at first because the applet silently vanished when I switched graphics resolutions for this smaller monitor.

Hi, I just had the same problem.

Had to:
1 killall ktorrent,
2 then sudo ktorrent,
3 then go into ktorrent settings and change the port manually (and apply settings),
4 then ctrl-c in the terminal to close the sudo ktorrent session

Started perfectly after :)
