I am new to linux although a windows superuser. I can not all the fancy commandline tricks and need detailed help pls.
When I start ktorrent linux freezes, everything moves really really slow. Kind of reminds me of a windows box that have been kept running without reboot for several weeks. I have for the time beeing 3 or 4 downloads going on at the same time. I started them last night and it all worked fine. Today when I got from work I could not run firefox or other appz and ktorrent had closed down or at least dissapperrad from the screen. What can I do to fix this pls? Remember pls to give me step-by-step guiding here pls. |

Noob as I am to Linux and ktorrent I will need to ask this before updating: 1: If I update to latest version will I loose any of the torrents I was currently downloading before I got problems? (huge files so I would hate to start from scratch) 2: Could anyone pls tell me if I could update via the package manager in Linuxmint, or if not give me a detailed step by step guide how to update. |

1) No, you won't loose any torrents, this is currently only the case if you go to the next kde4 version but there is a work around for that too.
2) Just add the ubuntu backport to /etc/apt/sources.list You can do this by
And pasting this somewhere on the bottom:
Then all is left is an sudo aptitude update and a sudo aptitude safe-upgrade to upgrade your ktorrent installation. |

Maybe the best way for me for getting ktorrent working is to just leave it along and wait for the synaptic package-manager to be ready to let me get 2.2.4. Because I can't seem to make this work.
I wonder how long before I can have 2.2.4 via synaptic? As of now I cant have newer then 2.1 via synaptic. |

Here is what I got in the error msg:
But first I was prompted for a password, I gave me password clicked OK and nothing else then error. Maybe I need to navigate manually to the folder or something like that? |

Ok, I was able to get the source list open. I have pasted the code you put here on the bottom of the page and saved it. I am not sure what to do next. You tell me:

Ai, gnome not kde that is the reason....
Just invoke a
This is to update the changes you made in /etc/apt/sources.list When this is done, invoke
This is to upgrade ktorrent(and maybe more packages from the backports) in this case. |
