The German Internet DSL Provider Alice is currently disturbing massively my Bittorrent Downloads. I have a monthly traffic with more than 100 GB but I pay for a flatrate. They obviously want to make me terminate the contract.
Up to now I have only prove by saving the statistic images created by Ktorrent. My Downlad/Upload Speed I pay for is 16.000/1.024 kBs. You can see my KTorrent Statistics here: http://www.superdigi.de/img/ktorrent%202008-01-19.png http://www.superdigi.de/img/ktorrent%202008-01-19a.png I guess Alice is using two different techniques to disturb my filesharing experience: 1. They reduce the amount of possible simoultaneously connections. When Ktorrent is running all other Internet Application do not work correctly: I cannot even use my Browser any more: I get Timeouts and "Server not found" 2. They use TCP-RST Packages like Comcast: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/01/16/0238244 I need your help and input to collect real proves for both techniques. I plan to inform the german press about this. I am a programmer but I do not know much about network technologies. Are there any network analyse tools that can show me if my DSL Provider uses one of the both techniques? Or what can I do do have real prove for the disturbance? Thanks! |

1.: If they throttle you to a specific speed, and you use all that "speed"/bandwidth for torrenting, of course there will be nothing left for web-browsing, etc.
2.: How do you know that they're sending RST-packets? As you said yourself, you do not know much about networking. You can use Wireshark to sniff packets that you receive. |
