IP Filter Really - How is it used?

Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:12 am
In essence I know the answer, but in KTorrent I am somewhat unsure of it's effectiveness.

I have the plugin loaded and running, with the filter file downloaded and converted.

However, enable the log and in prefs - log viewer options select ipfilter -all

This should list blocked IP's in the log viewer but all I get is:
AntiP2P header loaded.
IP 0.0.0.0 banned.

Why no display of blocked IP's?

There is also an ipfilter widget across the top of the gui, which opens as a ktorrent blacklist, with options to addd IP's individually, or it would appear to add a filter file (azureus has a similar facility - but seems to work better) If a file can used here to add a list - what type of file is needed?

Some clarification would be appreciated.

EDIT-

Ok, I re-loaded the filter file using the plugin and below is the output and at the very bottom : ret != len (appeared separately at intervals)
(maybe this is a block??)

Anti-P2P filter unloaded.
Loading finished. Starting conversion...
Block 0 written.
Block 10000 written.
Block 20000 written.
Block 30000 written.
Block 40000 written.
Block 50000 written.
Block 60000 written.
Block 70000 written.
Block 80000 written.
Block 90000 written.
Block 100000 written.
Block 110000 written.
Block 120000 written.
Block 130000 written.
Block 140000 written.
Block 150000 written.
Block 160000 written.
Block 170000 written.
Block 180000 written.
Block 190000 written.
Block 200000 written.
Finished converting.
Loading Anti-P2P filter...
AntiP2P header loaded.
ret != len
ret != len

The lists are huge, it would be a big waste of time.

A text file with one IP address per line

Thanks for the reply.

I know that the lists are huge, but it's nice to know what hits you are getting. In Azureus it displays all blocked IP's. I generally get very few, mostly 0. As I don't use DHT and only use private trackers, unless I'm downloading Open software.
So although the lists are huge, it's not intensive on the log if you get so few hits.

Attempts to connect to banned IP's are logged in the log window. It's just the UI doesn't give a way to show ALL banned IP's because it'd quickly peg the CPU generating that list.
