Changing URL - private torrent

Wed May 14, 2008 6:12 am
I am a new user of Ktorrent..

One of the completed torrents (now seeding) is from a tracker which has just changed its URL. Therefore, the tracker info in the torrent needs to be changed. As the torrent is private, Ktorrent doesn't allow modification of the tracker. The torrent file downloaded now from the tracker contains the updated URL.

Since I am new here, I'm not yet familiar with the full directory usage... I know where the files are (moved after download with a "set download location" operation. Since the torrent originally was a ScanFolder item, it is now in the "loaded" directory and was automatically copied by the "copy .torrent files to" setting. Presumably, there is also an internal format of this torrent somewhere which Ktorrent actually uses.

How can I properly update the system (I already have the new .torrent file) without disturbing the already downloaded data and without any unnecessary re-downloading? I would prefer to keep the information such as up/download and ratio data, but this is not critical since it is already over the 1.0 mark.

TIA

This is very easy todo, just redownloaded the torrent and open the torrent on the same save location as the data is already written. You will lose your local up and download ratio though, which does not do any harm, the tracker would have saved this already.

Alternatively, you can do this :

Right click on the torrent -> open directory -> temporary directory

That should open a directory in a file manager, this directory should contain a file named torrent. You can now copy the new torrent over this file, restart KT, and then you should have the new tracker URL and local stats are still there.

Obviously, you should only do this when you are absolutely sure that the data matches.

Thanks to both of you. I used George's method. I stopped the torrent before making the change. though you didn't mention that - seemed like a logical thing to do.

Worked like a charm - and took all of 90 seconds to copy and then restart KT :) - I'm going to like it here!

Doesn't really matter, the torrent file is only loaded once.
