A question on portforwarding

Sun Sep 14, 2008 12:43 am
Hey guys,

How can I go about opening a port for KTorrent? I'm new to the client, I just installed 2.2.5. And I opened a port for the client in my router. I then entered this port into KTorrent in the General category in the option, under the Port option. But the little yellow triangle is still on the left hand side of KTorrent.

Is there any kind of button I can push for the client to check and see if the port is open? Like Deluge/uTorrent has? By the way, I'm using Ubuntu Hardy 0.8.04. I'm extremely new to Linux and KTorrent.

Thank you for any help.

It means the port is firewalled.

But I don't have a firewall running in Linux. Don't you have to manually enable it in Ubuntu?

The port opens just perfectly for another client. So I don't see why it's not for KTorrent.

EDIT: Ok, so I tried what I found in this thread:

http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008...antage-of.html

It's for the uncomplicated firewall. Now, once I typed sudo ufw enable in terminal, Deluge was no longer connectable(which I'm trying this out on this client because I've always been able to become connectable in Deluge). So I then typed this sudo ufw allow "number of my port" in terminal, and Deluge was then connectable again.

So, I tried typing that same command with the port number that I opened for KTorrent, but I'm still getting the yellow triangle. So this makes me to believe that has absolutely nothing to do with the firewall.

The icon only shows that you haven't gotten any incoming connections. This might take some time on some torrents. Just make sure the port is forwarded (manually or via the UPnP plugin), and then incoming connections will follow.

Don't mess around with firewalls, you don't need that.
