I run ktorrent-kde4 as my torrent client.
I have been doing so for quite a long time now without any hitches. But I've got a weird issue that has arisen in the last couple of days. Whenever I run KTorrent, CPU usage goes up to 100% and stays there. Then after about 10-20 mins or so the RAM usage goes up to 100%. Then after another 20 mins or so, the SWAP file begins to fill up too. My system gets so bogged down after an hour or so of running KTorrent, that I'm forced to reboot. And it's weird because I've never had this issue before and it only happens with KTorrent and no other apps. The running process that's causing the problem is
I have reverted back to the last KDE3 version and it works fine. Strange. I thought I had solved the problem. I installed both the KDE3 and KDE4 versions side by side and copied the torrent data from one directory to the other so they had the exact same torrent data. Results: KDE3 version, handles 6+ torrents with ease. KDE4 version, handles 6- torrents with ease. Anything approx. 7 or above, the memory usage goes sky high. So it's obviously a memory management issue in the newer KDE4 versions. I found another thing that may be causing it. KTorrent has a feature where you can paste a torrent link you've copied to the clipboard from your browser and paste it directly into KTorrent without selecting the downloaded torrent file itself. Handy feature, but seemingly buggy. And it seems to work fine when you've downloaded the torrent file itself to your hard drive first and then select the file directly from within KTorrent. TBH, between the two problems, I'm not sure which one is the cause. Any help appreciated. And thanks in advance. ![]() KTorrent 3.0.1 running on KDE4.0.3 fox |
