My Kubuntu 8.10 installation was just forcefully shut down by mistake and now my ktorrent 3.1.2 doesn't want to load any plugins. The log shows:

Sat Feb 7 02:20:15 2009: Bound to port 50000
Sat Feb 7 02:20:15 2009: Cannot open /home/me/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/groups : No such file or directory
Sat Feb 7 02:20:15 2009: Plugin ktinfowidgetplugin version does not match KTorrent version, unloading it.
Sat Feb 7 02:20:15 2009: Plugin ktsearchplugin version does not match KTorrent version, unloading it.
Sat Feb 7 02:20:15 2009: Plugin ktscanfolderplugin version does not match KTorrent version, unloading it.
Sat Feb 7 02:20:15 2009: Stopped update timer

Ofcourse, I seldom shut it down so it could be the upgrades too. Anyway, reinstalling ktorrent doesn't fix it, and removing all configuration files
didn't help.

Any help/hints appreciated.

Already did that a few times but really purged it this time to be sure. But no, exactly the same problem. And I'm clueless. Could some other system component be damaged so that ktorrent cannot load the plugins?

Forgot to add that I have also tried downgrading to the previous ktorrent package in kubuntu, but same problem.

Maybe KT is loading some plugins which are left over from another version.

Do a search on your disk for ktinfowidgetplugin.so, ktsearchplugin.so and ktscanfolderplugin.so, if you find 2 of these then you need to get rid of one.

First of all thanks for the help. But unfortunately that wasn't it :-/

Code: Select all
da@brutus:~$ sudo /etc/cron.daily/mlocate
da@brutus:~$ mlocate ktsearchplugin
da@brutus:~$ sudo apt-get install ktorrent
...
Setting up ktorrent (3.1.2+dfsg.1-0ubuntu2.1) ...
...
da@brutus:~$ sudo /etc/cron.daily/mlocate
da@brutus:~$ mlocate ktsearchplugin
/usr/lib/kde4/ktsearchplugin.so
/usr/share/kde4/apps/ktorrent/ktsearchpluginui.rc
/usr/share/kde4/services/ktsearchplugin.desktop
da@brutus:~$ DISPLAY=:0 ktorrent
da@brutus:~$ cat .kde/share/apps/ktorrent/log
Sun Feb 8 15:35:25 2009: Bound to port 6881
Sun Feb 8 15:35:25 2009: Cannot open /home/da/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/groups : No such file or directory
Sun Feb 8 15:35:27 2009: Plugin ktinfowidgetplugin version does not match KTorrent version, unloading it.
Sun Feb 8 15:35:27 2009: Plugin ktsearchplugin version does not match KTorrent version, unloading it.
Sun Feb 8 15:35:27 2009: Stopped update timer
da@brutus:~$

We can see the config is plain (port back to default), there's only one version of the plugin, and the log file still complains. There's something else going on...

exact same problem with Mandriva, too

Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:47 am
hello, i have the exact same problem since a machine crash back in november. The logs are similars, too.

ktorrent 3.1.5
KDE 4.1.3
Mandriva 2009.0 up-to-date
64 Intel cpu

As it does not keep me from using ktorrent, i simply wait for a future update (3.2 ?) to correct the problem.
Thanx for your work !

Updating to version 3.2, and the info plugin buttons are back.
Xhat's more, the memory and cpu usage is way down, a truly remarquable improvment.
Thanx a lot for all that good work !
