I already have ktorrent 3.1.2 and am using Ubuntu 8.10. I just switched over from XP so I'm still learning. Applications/add remove thinks 3.1.2 is the latest version so I can't update it that way. I have downloaded "ktorrent-3.2.tar.bz2" to my desktop and even extracted it by double-clicking it and picking 'extract'. It created a new folder 'ktorrent-3.2' in the same desktop folder.

What do I do next in the terminal to get this to install? I believe that I have installed all the extra programs from 'I want to compile the latest trunk, on what packages does KTorrent depend on?' on the faqs page. That part I completed successfully, no problems I can see.

When I try the different directions to install the newest ktorrent, it says no such file or directory. I must be listing the directory improperly because the files are there. At least, I'm doing something wrong.

Can someone please help this noob upgrade to the newer ktorrent? I really want to master Ubuntu and run the new, improved ktorrent.

Thanks for the reply.

I did what you said and it was all going great until I got to the "make" command. It started fine and was going through tons of lines counting a percent. When it got to 29% it got an error, error 2.

Here is the end where I got the error.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ 29%] Building CXX object libbtcore/CMakeFiles/btcore.dir/btversion.o
Linking CXX shared library ../lib/libbtcore.so
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib/libQtCore.so: file not recognized: File format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [lib/libbtcore.so.9.1.0] Error 1
make[1]: *** [libbtcore/CMakeFiles/btcore.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you need more of the log, let me know.

I'm guessing my libQTcore is wrong? Can I fix this?

This is very strange. Do this :

cd /usr/lib
ls -l libQtCore.*

And post the output of that command.
