If there is a FAQ or HOW-TO that explains exactly how to do this, please let me know where to find it.
I have a remote server box with a fat network pipe and want to use it with a good torrent seeder. I need to know how to launch ktorrent from a shell account and have it keep running after I log off. I don't suppose there is some secret Ktorrent server daemon somewhere that I don't know about, is there? This is exactly what I am looking for... To have the ktorrent GUI frontend running on my local machine while the actual ktorrent server runs as a daemon on my remote server. If I could do that, I would be so HAPPY!!! I know that ktorrent has a remote web interface, but how secure is it? Remember, this is going to be running on a remote server. I don't want people to be able to hack into it and load up all their warez and stuff. Not that I would really mind that much if they did, but then I would be legally liable and I don't want the notorious MPAA/RIAA or their allies breathing down my neck. How much of X do I need to install? Will it work to only install Ktorrent's pre-req's? Since I'm going to be running this on a server machine, I don't really want all the extra stuff that runs with X, Gnome, KDE, etc. hogging up my valuable resources that are needed for the other server daemons. So, I only want to install the bare minimum that is required to make ktorrent work properly. I have tried several other torrent programs, but most aren't that great. If I just want to share one torrent, then ctorrent is pretty good... except... ctorrent requires a separate instance of its self per torrent and will not share bandwidth between the servers... but you can dedicate bandwitdth per torrent, which isn't so bad... provided you don't want to share a bunch of torrents, In that case most all of your bandwidth will probably be quite idle. rtorrent works similar to ktorrent, but it will only run if I am actively babysitting it. Plus, it lacks quite a lot of ktorrents features! Plus, neither ctorrent nor rtorrent support DHT. So, I am still shopping for a remote torrent seeder solution. Any help will be MUCH appreciated!!! |

Hi there, I been controlling a small laptop in Japan, where the Internet Speed is Highest in the world and there is no limit on downloads, I use Ktorrent and Linux (Open SuSe), I down load on a USB 2.5 inch Laptop Hard Disk(250 Meg), when it fills up is sent to me by my friend, I usually work in Asia and speed in slow, and there is download limits in some countries! The worst one being Australia!
You need the IP address, name of the computer and the login pass word, and that is it, the software is already there! I never have tried it from Windows , but be similar and probably much easier. |

One possibility to control Ktorrent (and infact the whole PC) from a remote computer is the NX nomachine technology.
http://www.nomachine.com/select-package ... linux&id=1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NX_technology It works best with ssh - and you have control over everything in ktorrent. Also you will be able to access your PC from different platforms - like Windows or MacOS. |
