hi, i just installed ktorrent by going to applications/add/remove and typed in ktorrent and it installed it for me

I'm using Ubuntu by the way

I started ktorent and managed to add a torrent and its working

however when i go to my webui @ xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx it asks for username and password then i get this error HTTP/1.1 Internal Server Error
Failed to launch PHP executable !

i read somewhere that i had to type in the terminal what php or what php4

i typed both tose and this is what it looks like

it hasn't done anything i don't think????

i also read about looking at a log file,,,,i eventually found it and it says this

now as far as i know that might as well be written in double Dutch, because i haven't got a cue

You will want to install the php4 package from your repository. Use your package manager to do so.

there are loads of things with php5? is that ok

like php5 xapian and php5-tidy thers loads of them???

sorry i'm new to Linux and it took long enough to even find this package thing.....let alone know what the hell it is and how it works

Yes php5 will do, the package is probably named php5-cli

I would however recommend you upgrade to a more recent version, php usage has been dropped a long time ago.

The easiest way to upgrade is via your repository.

However, many repos are behind, and don't have the most recent versions.

In this case you would be required to install (or, in Linux lingo, compile) from the source.


You would download the source code from the downloads page, then use this information:

It's easier than it sounds, as it simply requires copying and pasting the instructions in to a console (or Konsole) window.

well i managed to get the webui working by adding that php5cli thing

howevre i now need to upgrade my ktorrent from 3.01 to 3,3,0 for the tacker i am using

It can't find stdio.h file.

There are more problems then just that, you don't even seem to have KDE4 installed.

Which distro are you using ?

i got my server from kimsufi, and i think they installed ubuntu desktop 8.04? and ubuntu hardy

Unless you can find a repository with recent KDE4 packages, it is going to be difficult to compile a recent version of ktorrent on hardy heron. IMHO you are probably better of upgrading to the latest version of ubuntu, it will come with a recent ktorrent package.

No, KDE is a desktop environment, php is a scripting language.

Thanks for all the help. I have the webui running, and it works great on a lot of sites, some sites require a newer version, but i can always use a different client on those.
