Hi,
Is there a way to change the Unit of Measure when setting up and download speeds, or when using the "recommended settings" widget? They keep switching between different formats (ie: kb/s, KiB/s, MiB/s) and its very confusing, and difficult to set limits and whatnot. (i'm bad at math) just upgraded to vs: 3.3.3 (on Kubuntu, kde 4.3.2) Thanks! |

I too would like to be able to change the unit of measurement. I have no idea how fast or slow my torrents are moving right now because it is all in this unusual and unfamiliar "KiB/s" measurement rather than kB/s.

Why?
We are on computers and so multiple of byte is used (Ki mean 1024 and K means 1000). I think using Internetioanl System of Units is wrong because the bandwidth usage will be unreal. |

And everything else in my computer uses kB and not this silly "KiB". That's why. |

I think it is a pratical error. K is used for SI (1000) and Ki is used for PC (1024). However depending on the context K is used for both decimal or binary values! For binary values Ki is always recommended and so it should be used.

Then I guess I'd just like to be able to change how it is spelled, as it seems at least from the file sizes that it is the same as what all other components of the OS are calling KB/MB.

KTorrent uses KDE functionality to format byte sizes, and KDE uses KiB by default, talk to the KDE devs if you don't like it. |

Is there a way to change that syntax or it's hardcoded into KDE? KiB/MiB look really annoying. Practically everyone is using KB, MB, GB etc. while referring to the powers of 2 (not to the powers of 10) and in computing it's implicitly understood to mean that.
UPDATE: I found the setting. It's in: System Settings > Locale > Country/Region & Language > Other > Byte size units: JEDEC Units. |
