Default Folder Security

Wed Jul 14, 2010 11:14 pm
I've just installed KTorrent. This is probably a really silly question, but I've just spent 2 hours trying to get an answer online and can't find one. I'm pretty new to P2P. The default folder where KTorrent is storing torrent information is in my home folder in a kde share folder called ktorrent, while the default save location is my home folder. In the latter, the file I'm downloading is sitting next to all the other stuff in my home folder, not in a separate folder as with Vuze. I've been reading some scare stories about people being able to access your personal files via P2P. I'm wondering if the only info going out is whatever I choose to put in my ktorrent folder (ie, nothing else), or if people might be able to access my entire home folder. Someone has to ask the dumb and paranoid questions. :P

Bittorrent is not like other P2P networks, in which you designate a directory which is to be shared with others. Only the files of the torrents are shared, nothing more. Other files would not be touched by ktorrent or any other bittorrent client.

Thank you, that's reassuring!
