Hi, I would like someone to help me to setup my configuration so that writes are minimal. Ktorrent application have a lot of writes to log file, which is in my home directory, for most applications I have it setup so that /tmp, /var/log and /var/tmp are tmpfs, ie. ramdisks, in order to minimize writes to ssd and so maximize lifetime of ssd. I cannot find how to disable logging, I have not installed internal hdd yet. I have ssd for system(Arch Linux)&user settings, so that everything starts fast.

as root:
# chattr +i /home/<login>/.kde4/share/apps/ktorrent/log seems to prevent writing to file, not clean soulution though I should check if it does not write somewhere else, not sure. |

Symlink does not work, because when ktorrent starts, it deletes old log file and creates a new one, if old file were symlink, it gets deleted and a new log file which is not symlink is created, the app needs a change so if log already exists, it is rewritten, but not recreated. Or is there a way how to do it cleaner way than with chattr +i method? There should added be an option into ktorrent to set where those "often written to" files are to be located, or disable logging at all, I have never looked into that log, and many small writes are not good thing anyway. Anyway - SSDs might force developers to add such settings to their applications, because users might want to mimimize useles writes because of immature yet already spreading technology.

Then move the entire directory and make a symlink to it.
