Using Socks 5 proxy with ktorrent

Wed Sep 28, 2011 3:16 pm
Hi,

I am trying to use a socks5 proxy for doing my torrent downloading.

I enabled this in KTorrent configuration in the Proxy tab.

I entered the server name, port and also my authentication details.

But it seems that Ktorrent ignores my setting and continues to download in the normal way. It does not use my proxy server. I have checked that my torrent ip is still shown as my original one.

I have checked that the proxy is up and running. Please let me know how to set it up. I am using the latest version 4.1.2 and using it in ubuntu 11.04.

Thanks for your time.

Socks proxies are only used for outgoing peer connections, not tracker connections, and if you are still reacheable from the internet, incoming connections will also not use the socks proxy.

Ok. So using a socks server does not hide you completely right ? What is the best solution ? Will using a VPN really make you safe ?
