Updating to KTorrent 4.2

Fri Aug 17, 2012 1:07 pm
Kubuntu 12.04

I'm still on KTorrent 4.1.3 and it's saving magnet links at /home/.kde/share/apps/kio_magnet rather than specified download folder in settings. This is causing issues as my /home is only 2GB.

I understand this issue is resolved in 4.2 but my kubuntu backports ppa does not have this latest version and so it's not upgrading.

Before I attempt the instruction here:

http://ktorrent.org/?q=downloads

I'd like to know when I should be installing this to and what dependencies there are, or if there is a ppa I can use. Seamonkey involves moving the tar to /usr/local/seamonkey

http://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/in ... tall_linux

Most my software is installed via GUI or explicit instruction for CLI.

Have you seen the packages at https://launchpad.net/~veger/+ppa-packages? I don't use Kubuntu anymore, and when I did I didn't really get into using PPAs very much (did use a few), so I'm afraid I cannot give a properly informed response. (Edit: I should note that these appear to have been compiles from non-release source code, as evidenced by the "git" in the file names, referring to the code versioning software KTorrent uses. This means these PPAs may not be completely stable. I don't know how stable KTorrent keeps its trunk code.)

In case that PPA doesn't work, I'd like to provide an alternate method I've used when in a position similar to yours. You can take the folder the files are improperly downloading into, move that folder to the hard drive you would like downloads to go to, then link (symlink) the moved folder to its original location. All downloads will now go to the desired hard drive. When you are able to update KTorrent, you may optionally remove the link and move the folder back to its original location.

Good luck on trying to get KTorrent updated.
