Another small suggestion:

The current icon that appears on the Windows taskbar is a little insipid, looking just like a beige box. It is difficult to identify and differentiate.

My suggestion is to place a small red 'K' onto the beige page.

It would make Kate's location on the Windows taskbar much more easy to find. I have been struggling to find it in comparison to my previous editor, Context that has a similar icon to the one I have suggested.
