I'm not exactly what you'd call a hardcore programmer. Sure, I know some very basic Java, however I'm more of an angelscript/python guy.
For the longest time, I've been using an adventure game IDE known as AGS. It's highly proprietary, but it's a great costless programming environment with a very friendly community. The thing is, it's very easy to use. Everything's self-explanatory, and it's gotten to the point of being capable of heavy object-oriented programming using very simple pseudo-code. Various addons allow for 3D gameplay. My question is, is there anything like this for KDE? A simplified game-making app similar to AGS would be fantastic win for people that simply want to make games using Free Software. The closest Free Software game maker I've found is, regrettably, only Glumol. It's heavily under development (and has been for years), but I can't even so much as grab the source code from the site. I would like to propose the idea that a small group of talented KDE programmers look into the possibility of making a game IDE capable of competing with proprietary offerings such as AGS. Heck, think of what the programmer could DO using such an IDE, which could use so many of the heralded technologies behind KDE4 itself! Alas, like I'm said, I'm not much of a programmer. Any suggestions or thoughts on this issue?

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but get out of the kiddy pool. You can spend your whole life with these "easy to program" tools, and end up achieving nothing. Or you can take 2 weeks to get a solid grounding in C(++) another two weeks to get a solid base in SDL.
In a month you'll be programming _real_ games. Dive in. It's not easy, you won't be spoon fed but if you're willing to put in the effort its very rewarding. Good luck

Well, just complementing the 'get out of the pool' answer, why don't you try to get some friends and start this Easy GameMaking engine as a KDE app? it's a great way to improve your coding skills with an API that's proven to be plataform agnostic, and has a great userbase.

Yeah I'll have to agree the whole beginners programming tool concept is fundamentally flawed. There's an (unconfirmed) story that the creator of BASIC apologised for it.
If you want easy try using the python or ruby bindings on the KDE API. They're meant for serious work but are simple to use because using a tool more complex than you need is time wasting.

For what it is worth (and yes, i'm aware that this is an old thread) this is one of the goals of the Gluon project... One of the slightly longer term ones, but one of the goals none the less. To create a game development platform to rival the ease of Unity3D, while keeping the power that Qt gives us.
