Hi people,
I guess I'm one of the few people who use Amarok (2.6) under Windows 7. So far I like it really much, but every time I visist the amarok homepage I see this nice black themed amarok. Is there a way to use other themes under Windows 7?
Of course I know this is most likely not a priority (I guess the Windows version isn't one too), but making Amarok look good in Windows could make your player more popular on this platform.

KDE's System Settings app should be included with the Amarok Windows build, and will allow you to change the colour settings.

Changing the widget style works fine, but changing colours (I just used the themes that are already installed) doesn't have any effect on amarok

Have you tried restarting Amarok after making those changes? They should have taken effect immediately, especially if the Oxygen style was in use (not sure if they will apply with the windows style).

Yes I have restartet it several times even reinstalled it several times too. I also tried Versions 2.5 and 2.6.
I also tried installing Amarok with the KDE installer and tried to change the colors. As a test I installed several other applications too which all do not react on the color change.
So I guess this is a problem of the windows version of KDE?

In System Settings > Application Appearance > Style, which style is selected? If it is Windows, can you try Oxygen instead and see if it honours the colour themes?

Oxygen, the Windows styles, Cleanlooks and Plastique do not use the custom colors. Motif and CDE use a somewhat black color theme that isnt changeable but its different to the color scheme I've selected

I just installed a ubuntu on a virtual device and checked the themes, it seems that Motif and CDE dont honour the custom colours there either, so I guess KDE can't use colors on Windows completely?

It would seem that way at least - Qt likely defers to the native Windows colours while on Linux with a native KDE environment the KDE platform plugin ensures KDE colours are in use.

Could it be that Amarok is packaged with it's own colours file and so does not rely on the system-wide colour settings?
This could explain why you are able to change the widget styles used, but not change the window colours.
If this is the case, I'd be curious to see what would happen if such a colours file was no longer available to Amarok...
Would Amarok default to using system-wide colours automatically?
In no way do I suggest deleting the file if you find one does exist.

I already tried deleting or modifying different .color files. Even if I delete all I could find Amarok starts up and has the usual colors.

By deleting all I could find I mean deleting all in the KDE folder and in the AppData KDE folder. I havent seen one single color file in Amarok folders

I was grasping at straws but it was worth mentioning I guess...
Now I have no Windows experience and I struggle even picturing Amarok on Windows!, but here's another long shot; are there any image files?

It also possible you used the portable installer, this one does not use any of the settings files usually found in Windows' AppData folders. Instead it load them directly from the installation folder. This is to allow it to run from a USB drive without changes to the system.

Are you using the portable installer?

We don't have any Amarok specific color files. We use whatever the KDE library classes give us. This should be what you can configure using systemsettings.

I dont use the portable version and I even reinstalled Amarok using your link, this did not solve the problem. As I stated earlier this might be a problem of KDE because other applications using KDE do not change their colors either.
