This is a guide to install and run Amarok 1.49 on Windows XP, this worked for me and comes with no guarantees. Parts 1 – 5 are based on Fabian K's How TO, this can be found here “http://favdiggs.blogspot.com/2008/02/howto-run-amarok-under-windows-xp.html”.
1.Download and install the KDE version of AndLinux (http://www.andlinux.org/). During install, chose whatever options you want to use (I suggest activating the "run as NT service" feature, since you probably want Amarok to be open most of the time you're on your PC. Use simple file sharing NOT samba and select your root directory normally C:\ as the mount point.) 2.Restart your computer. 3.Start "Konsole" from the quickbar button the installer has created (if you can't find that button use c:\Program Files\andLinux\Launcher\andKonsole.exe). 4.After a little while, you should see a command prompt (starting with a # which means you're logged in as root). Type in: "apt-get install xterm libavutil1d libgsm1 libavcodec1d libmad0 libpostproc1d libxine1-ffmpeg". These are packages which are required by Amarok and which do not come with AndLinux per default. 5.Now that you've installed all the required packages, you can install Amarok with this command: "apt-get install amarok". To access your Music stored on another drive from AndLinux. 1.Open Computer Management (Control Panel - Administrative Tools – Computer Management) 2.Go to Disk Management, right lick on the drive containing your music and select “Change Drive letter and Paths..” 3.Click “Add – Browse” Select your root drive (The one you mounted during installation of AndLinux) and click “New Folder” call this whatever you want I suggest “Music”. Click “Ok” on both dialogues. Close Computer Management . 4.You now have access to your music from AndLinux. All your Windows files will be located at “/mnt/win/”. Sound Settings http://www.radionoize.co.uk/Amarok-Stuff.zip 1.Download Amarok-Stuff.zip file included with this guide. Place the files in “C:\Program Files\andLinux\pulseaudio\” Overwriting any files already in the directory. (These files will only work if your root drive is C:\) 2.Place “Short cut to Pulseaudio” in the Start-up folder on the start menu. 3.The file “Amarok.exe” is the windows launcher to start amarok. |

Thanks for this guide, but I would like to add that Amarok 2 (currently in beta) is running natively on Windows. So stay tuned

Your right, Amarok 2 does run on windows, but currently too buggy for dayto day use. Once they've got it sorted its gonna be a killer app for windows and unlike this method its not gonna take bout 700megs of disk space, lol.

well, i installed kde for windows in order to run amarok 2.0, but when i press play, it immediately turns to pause, so did not work for me. The friends that worked for it, made a lot of work, but still, a working perfect amarok windows installation, depents on local windows pc structure - settings, i suppose.
So this guide might be useful at the time. |

Running on vista.. should run faster on xp.. it reproduces and everything.. using VirtualBox in fluid mode is the best thing to run amarok on windows.. i'm using kubuntu on it.. but on a lightweight distro with amarok it should be even faster.

I use andLinux, too
As I see, it's running in nearly full speed and that even on low memory usage. I can still play Crysis etc when andLinux is running. Integration with Windows is better than VirtualBox, too. Even my media keys work with a self developed application. |
