Hello,
I'm trying to use Amarok on Windows Vista. I've downloaded the latest kdewin-installer, launched it, selected the latest stable version of KDE (4.1.3) and then only selected Amarok 1.9.4 for installation. It has installed me Amarok and its dependencies. Then I've installed the Visual C++ 2005 runtimes, and made the modifications to the environment variables. When I try to launch Amarok, it get stuck on the splash screen. What can I do ? |

You can use DebugView to get more information where it hangs, see: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Download:Windows

I had a discussion yesterday on IRC with someone who tried to look the reason of the bug. We did not find anything.

This *might* help you at least start trouble-shooting... Not sure if it's an issue in windows. Sorry I can't be more specific on file locations etc. Don't have Amarok installed on this machine atm.
Look for a file called something like 'amarokrc' and open it with a text editor. Look for the setting that indicates 'show splash screen' and change it to not do so. Save the file, and restart Amarok. I've found (on OS X anyway) that sometimes there's a dialogue behind the splash screen that can't be accessed because the splash is in the way, and can't be dismissed because the dialogue is waiting for input.

Could not find the amarokrc file.
It appears that after fresh reboot, Amarok shows me an error message saying he cannot find any collection plugins. Running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" does not solve anything. Attached is the output of DebugView cleaned of the "Invalid Parameter passed to C function" after a fresh reboot (so with the message above displayed). If I try to run Amarok again after that, the only messages displayed in DebugView (again without the invalid parameters messages) are
and nothing else. |

OK, I just installed Amarok2 (on Vista in boot camp on my macbook) using the latest kdewin-installer. I selected Amarok (as well as some of the other KDE bits and pieces), agreed to the extra deps that were going to be installed, and everything went just peachy. I'm not sure why you've had to install the Visual C++ stuff seperately - it was part of the dependancy tree here. I haven't fiddled with any environment settings, just a straight install as end-user.
Amarok et al appear in my start menu, and Amarok launches cleanly. I'm building my collection from a network share as I type. So not sure what your problem is. For reference, the config file is

I did this because this is what is described there
I've some rc file in that folder but no amarokrc. I've no entry added in my start menu.
