Amarok nightly (Windows)

Thu Nov 06, 2008 8:09 pm
I've pretty disappointed with the Amarok beta releases for Windows so far... 1.94 behaves almost identically to 1.90. :(

So I decided I'd check out the nightlies to see if anything new is happening. Only one problem: they don't exist, at least not on the two designated servers (http://saroengels.net/kde-windows/amarok-nightly and http://mafia-server.net/amarok-nightly).

Anyone care to shed some light on this? :)

Why exactly are you disappointed by the betas, can you elaborate?

There's just a general lack of functionality from what I can see, and what is there is fairly poor. The center context view is nonexistent; most hotkeys (global or otherwise) simply don't work; the play/pause and stop buttons are very iffy---the stop button stops playback for a few seconds then starts it again, and doesn't fully stop playback until I hit it three or more times, at which point Amarok usually crashes; I can't change the volume while the OSD is visible; I can't move the OSD from its original position; the collection import script in the latest version doesn't work (but I didn't really expect it to anyway, different OS and all)... those are all the major things I've noticed. Sure, this stuff might be normal for a beta... but this close to release?

These problems are definitely not normal, and might be a problem with the packaging on Windows. I'll talk to our Windows experts.

Might be, but I installed 1.94 yesterday and I'm not experiencing any of these issues. One thing I DID do was install the MP3 Parser DirectShow Filter which fixed some playback glitches I was having.

Yeah, I did that too after I realized mp3 playback was completely borked in 1.94. Worked fine in 1.90, though. Or at least as well as it does now with the DirectShow filter installed.

What OS are you using? I'm on Vista Ultimate 32-bit, no service pack.
