Amarok on Windows with proxy

Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:45 am
I'm running Amarok 2.4, downloaded 2011-04-26 as amarok.7z.

Wikipeda articles are not fetched by Amarok.
I cannot use the Like/Dislike/Bug buttons.

Likely cause: I'm behind a corporate firewall/proxy, and I haven't configured the proxy settings for Amarok.

I cannot find any proxy settings for Amarok. This is the only KDE program I have installed, so I cannot use any other KDE program to set the proxy server address. Is there a file where I can write it? Where is that file, if it exists?

Kind regards,
Helge

Re: Amarok on Windows with proxy  Topic is solved

Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:58 am
this is a guess as I don't have it under Windows but maybe the solution is the same as under Gnome

from http://smsoftdev-solutions.blogspot.com ... proxy.html
Amarok internet access behind proxy server
If you use amarok behind a proxy server and it cannot access internet (for example to fetch lyrics using a lyrics script, or to submit data to last.fm or any other task which requires it access the internet). The reason for this is that amarok does not read the system wide proxy settings from GNOME. To solve this problem you need to edit the following file :

$HOME/.kde/share/config/kioslaverc

and add the following entries to it :

[Proxy Settings][$i]
ProxyType=1
httpProxy=http://username:password@proxyserver:port/
httpsProxy=http://username:password@proxyserver:port/
ftpProxy=http://username:password@proxyserver:port/

Save the file and Restart amarok.

Sorry for the necro!
I know this thread is ancient, but it is the first hit when searching using google. And it is the only result that looks like what has been searched for. Other results are about Linux, not Windows. So that's why I necro'd this thread, a new one would be counterproductive.

...and this topic drove me nuts for several weeks!

So if you, like me, came here via your preferred search engine, because Amarok does not heed any setting you put anywhere on Windows, then here is the solution:

The kioslaverc file you search for is in: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Amarok\share\config

Put the Proxy settings as listed above into the kioslaverc file you find there, and Amarok will happily go through your corporate proxy.
