the problem is this:
i work in a school and the pdf documents are stored in a server. when i compile the forms in pdf Okular saves them in a xml file but it is in a local directory on my pc : ~/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata/ And so when the other teachers go to the file they can't see what I've done and save... I think the only solution is to save my local directory /docdata on the server but how can I tell Okular to go there and show completed filled forms? ps. excuse me for my bad english... I hope you will understand what is my problem! thank you! dino |

do the teachers use Okular? if not the XML probably won't be able to be read by them
By default Okular looks for the XML file in the users directory, your teachers instance of Okular will look in their directory not yours even if yours is accessible to them Try using file -> save as, this will save it as a pdf (I have not tested with forms) The other option is to file -> export as -> document archive which will create a .okular file (containing the pdf and the XMP files) that is probably only readable by Okular |

the other teachers use acrobat reader...
I've tried to "save as" but the outcome is the same!! ![]() If they write in the form using acroba I can read that ... but not the contrary! ![]() |

It works here with okular from upcoming kde 4.11 release. But this feature relies only on the poppler library used by okular. Okular with the latest stable version of poppler (0.22.5) should work, maybe even with lower poppler versions. You can ask on irc #poppler which version of poppler supports this feature. |

now I go to virtualize a kubuntu 13.10 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/
and test these new updates.. thank you! --------------------------------- nothing to do.... but now I hav an answer from okular: "this document contains XFA forms, which are not supported" ok! I will wait for a new situation! thank you! |

See http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdegraphi ... tions.html for more information about Okular annotations (I guess it's the same with forms).
Before Okular had this feature I had success with saving annotations using PDF-XChange Viewer running in Wine.

In my kubuntu 13.10 I've attempted to do this -> save as
and I've poppler 0.22 .....This feature is only available if Okular has been built with version 0.20 or later but the result is not so good: in my gmail if I want only see it in the browser I see the text too... but if I download the document and I open it with acrobat I can't see anything! it is the mystery... where are the data? |

what plugin is used in your browser?
why not just use Adobe Acrobat for Linux? |

fyi - I dl'ed aa Acrobat PDF, form opened it in Okular, filled in some fields, saved it with "save as" and then opened it in Windows using the Sumatra PDF reader and the text I added does show, so it does work (1st time I tried it btw).

I just tried it as well: filled the form in Okular and saved it using Save As. The results could be viewed in PDF-Xchange Viewer (Wine), but not Adobe Reader (Linux). Weird.
So it seems like the data is saved to the PDF file but Adobe Reader/Acrobat doesn't display it (I have no clue why; the PDF standard seems pretty messy). A workaround is to use Adobe Reader to fill in the forms - in that case all PDF readers I tried (Adobe Reader, Okular, PDF-Xchange Viewer) can view the forms.

@dino: You need to ask the Kubuntu packagers if they can provide a version of Okular which has been compiled against a newer Poppler in this case.

It's not a problem on Kubuntu. I think that we must only wait for a new version of poppler. on my computer is the 0.22 the newest. as say Hans:
