Firefox + Okular as “embedded” pdf viewer with Mozplugger : unable to search into the pdf
(same question posted on AskUbuntu : http://askubuntu.com/questions/465830/f ... search-int) I am rather fan of okular software to view pdf. So that I am using it as embeded pdf viewer in to firefox web browser. I prefer it over the default pdf viewer of Firefox and Adobe Reader. However, since months I use the Okular option, I have noticed that I am not able the search for string into the document : - Ctrl+F shortcut activates the Firefox search - Search via the Okular menu toggles the Search field but I am unable to provide any string input. I wanted to know if there is any way to circumvent this ? (I have tested the same point with Adobre Reader as pdf viewer, there it works as expected) Cheers (Kubuntu 14.04, KDE 4.13) |

The Firefox integrated find feature won't be able to interact with Okular, so it's not too surprising that it does not work. In regards to not being able to focus the search box Okular itself provides, do the other controls in the embedded Okular work? (Scrolling over the page, typing in a given page number, using the page down/up buttons on the keyboard, etc)

Hello bcooksley, thanks for the reply. After a more careful test, it seems that I can do any action requiring the mouse (scrolling with the mouse wheel, clicking here and there in the top menu, ...) but as soon as I do something with the keyboard, there, it seems indeed that I have no control at all (page Up, Down, edition of the page number, search field input, ... do not work) Cheers |

Okay. Are you able to make the input fields focus, or are they simply non-interactable?
You mention that you lose all control when you try to use the keyboard - does this mean that the mouse is now useless as well?

Hello bcooksley
my wording was maybe inaccurate. a. At any time, even if I push any key on the keyboard, before or after, I keep any mouse action possible and working. I can go to any menu, click on any button of the top toolbar, zoom, select, etc. b. About the input fields, for instance, it seems I cannot place the cursor in the input field. Let me maybe give a few examples. - if I open the search field with the mouse via the menu, a double-click on the search field that pops up stay ineffective, I cannot interact and type any string. - About the page number counter present at the bottom of Okular, I can highlight the page number with the mouse but not place the cursor there for edition. A remark though : if, with the mouse, I open Go To -> Go To Page (shortcut Ctrl+G logically does not work), then the window "Go to page" pops up and there, I can use the mouse to move the scroll and/or type directly the page number in the field and then go to the expected page. Interesting. I'm assuming if you open the files in Okular itself directly, they load fine?

Hello,
yes, you're right : outside Firefox, with Okular launched on its own, I can perform any action as expected, with the mouse and/or the keyboard. Shortcuts work, input field can be filled, ... Cheers |

Okay, i'm afraid this is a bug with the way Mozplugger integrates Okular into Firefox. You'll need to report this to the Mozplugger developers - only they'll be able to fix it.

Maybe this KParts plugin for Firefox (instead of mozplugger) could help:
