Where are the bookmarks created in Okular stored

According to some posts, bookmarks should be stored in the same xml file as annotations, that would be ~/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata/ but they are not there. When I create a bookmark in Okular, I can see it in the bookmarks. If I close okular and reopen the document, the bookmark is still there, but it is not in the associated xml file in docdata directory. See the images in the links below. Where are the bookmarks stored then?

On my Neon PC it is the bookmarks.xml in ~/.local/share/okular/
and in my Debian Stretch 9.4 VM, it is the bookmarks.xml in ~/.kde/share/apps/okular/
