I have always used Okular to render my Markdown files. Recently (2-3 months ago?) it stopped working. When I open my .md files with Okular and check the backend (Help -> About Backend), it is not the Markdown Backend as expected but rather the Txt Backend. Changing the file extension to .markdown doesn't fix the issue. How do I configure the backend correctly?

Probably https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430538 if you have Okular 20.08.x; try to upgrade to the latest version (>=20.12.0).
