Thai characters are not displayed in annotations

Hi,
I can type or paste Thai characters into the annotation annotation editor, but they are not displayed in the annotation box. See example: https://ibb.co/sw0Tj4x
Thai text in the original pdf is displayed properly, and I can type Thai in all applications on my computer, so there doesn't seem to be a problem with fonts not being installed.

Using Okular Version 20.12.3 on Linux Mint 19.3 Mate
