Hi all,
Question: are the "view" configurations in okular supposed to be remembered after you restart the program? Because the settings of View->View Mode are remembered, but frex View->Fit Page isn't. Is that intentional, or is it a bug (IOW should I file it as one?)

The zoom setting is stored per-document, not globally.
Most probably also the view mode should be saved that way, we got requests to do that.

I see. Now that I check, the setting is indeed saved per document. The reason I keep bumping into it is because I'm using kile: each time I compile the .tex document I'm working on, it opens a new okular instance, which annoyingly does not have the view settings I've set the previous time I compiled it. Being able to set a default zoom/fit for okular would be very useful in this case, maybe I should put that in Brainstorm. OTOH, it would be quite the improvement if kile didn't open a new okular session every compile, the old kde3 version didn't do that, the view stayed in the same window (be it kpdf, acrobat or whatever...)

The known problem of this case is that the document changes, so the settings of the old document are not used for the updated document. Not sure something can be done about that, though.

True, but the "new" document must get its settings from somewhere. Now the new okular session called from kile opens with View->View Mode set to Facing Pages, and View->Fit Width checked. These are not the out-of-the-box default settings for okular opening a fresh document: when I open okular without document, View->Fit Width is not checked, same for when I download some random pdf and open it. After some fidgeting with okular, it seems that View->View Mode is remembered globally (and not per document), and the zoom or View->Fit... settings are normally remembered per document, but the memory gets stuck somewhere for the kile special case. Now kile seems to be a bit of a mess (the new okular instance after each compile is very annoying), but other than that it would still be useful to be able to set a default zoom/fit in the settings menu, such that each new file gets opened in your preferred mode.

Another three years and still no way for a user to set their own default document view settings?

Are you sure? There has been a "Default zoom" option for a while in the general settings. Or do you mean something else?

There is a "Default Zoom" option, but there is no "Default View Mode". Every time the file changes, okular goes back to the "Single Page" view even if it was set to "Continuous".... |

Could you also perhaps make a "Default View Mode" setting, independent of the document? |
