Hello,

my camera Rollei Compactline 230 doesn't work in digikam and dolpin !

dolphin shows only a error message und digikam do nothing.

dolphin shows "USB PTP Class Camera" after I write camera:/ in the addressline. A click on this topic shows the error message: "Der Prozess für das Protokoll camera wurde unerwartet beendet." (the process for the protocol camera aborted unexpectly).

digikam detected the camera as "Rollei Compactline 230 (automatisch erkannt)" after click in import. But when I click on this topic digikam do nothing.

When I connected the camera to the USB-Port dmesg write:
Code: Select all
<6>[  515.584100] usb 2-4: new high speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd

lsusb shows:

which Foxconn / Hon Hai is the camera.

gphoto2 --auto-detect shows:

When I mount the camera manually it works:
Code: Select all
modprobe fuse
gphotofs /mnt
ls -lR /mnt
fusermount -u /mnt

I use kubuntu 11.10 with kernel 3.0.0-16-generic x86_64 and KDE 4.7.4.

best regards.

If you check in ~/.xsession-errors after "camera:/" unexpectedly closes, is there any relevant lines indicating why it crashed?

And which digikam version are you using? Kubuntu 11.10 only ships 2.1.1, you should get the latest version 2.5.0 in case you do not already have it:
https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/extra

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Hello bcooksley, hello Mamarok, thanks for your reply.

The file ~/.xsession-errors doesn't contained the word "camera".

digikam works after updating to 2.5 from the repository ppa:philip5/extra.
digikam detected the camera now as "USB PTP Class Camera" not more as "Rollei Compactline 230 (automatisch erkannt)".

But now the "Geräteüberwachung" don't show the camera after connecting.

And dolphin still showing on the error message "Der Prozess für das Protokoll camera wurde unerwartet beendet." (the process for the protocol camera aborted unexpectly) after click on "USB PTP Class Camera".
After them .xsession-errors contained the error message:
Code: Select all
kioslave: ####### CRASH ###### protocol = camera pid = 2634 signal = 11

Why is crashing dolphin and why doesn't show the "Geräteüberwachung" now
the camera after connecting ?

Best regards.

(Excuse my bad english)

hello,

and even more digikam 2.5 crashed after closing by clicking on the "x" with Segmentation fault (11).

best regards.

Ok, that indicates that the background process which provides the camera:/ protocol access is crashing. This explains why the camera is detected but not accessible.

You will need to continue to use your workaround for now.
I'm not sure how to debug KIO Slaves unfortunately.

You may wish to ensure that libgphoto2 is up to date however.
