How do I mount a camera ?

Mon May 28, 2012 5:52 pm
Kubuntu 11.10
KDE 4.74

I have a digitial camera that connects to PCs via a USB port. In the past with Ubuntu I would just plug in the camera to the USB port and an icon would come up that I could click on to get the content out.

How does this happen with the KDE?

I plugged the camera in and nothing happened. My desktop is in folder view, no new icons have come up. Dolphin shows a dvd in computer and my external hard drive, but no camera.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I got around this by turning the camera on and using the device notifier widget.

I still couldn't get an icon of the camera on the desktop nor in the places panel in Dolphin

Did you try installing digikam and accessing the camera from there?

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Did you try right-click Create New>Link to device>Camera device.

That said, I find it easier to use the device notifier - particularly as my camera has two storage devices and the device notifier allows me to select which one I want to open.

Duct tape man. Duct tape is the answer to every problem.
