Hej there,
I'm missing a feature in Digikam: I'd like to browse my pictures on non-connected devices, e.g. an external USB-hard drive. I expected, that digikam would just gray out the collections currently not accessable, still show me the thumbnails and graying out all actions that would need the actual image. However, as soon as I disconnect the device, the collections disappears in Digikam, though thumbs and metadata is stored locally, afaik. Why isn't it working the way , I'm expecting it? Are there too many things that rely on having the pictures accessable? I went to a friend who uses lightroom and who has a lot of images on external hard drives and on network storages. I just wanted to know, how he handles all that with lightroom. And, sadly, lightroom just worked the way, I was expecting it for digikam. Non-accessable collections were grayed down a bit, thumbnails were still accessable (and as well reduced versions of the images, which were actually still quite good). Well, he payed that with a 12GB cache database, but he has way more of that with the real images... So my question is, whether there is a particular reason, why digikam behaves differently, or if I just did something wrong... Cheers Felix |
