If you open Dolphin or Konqueror and type "camera:/" in the URL bar are you able to access your camera?
It seems based on that output that Digikam is detecting your camera quite fine - although it does appear you have some breakages in your dependencies.
Are you using any 3rd party PPAs for Digikam itself?

Thanks, yes, I can access the camera through "camera:/" in Konqueror, and no, I'm not using any 3rd party PPAs for Digikam.

As everyone reporting the problem so far uses Kubuntu, I think that's where things are pointing. I've opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/digikam/+bug/1329726 for it.

Please also include in that bug the relevant excerpt from your Digikam startup log where Digikam notes the existence of your camera.
