Album sort order

Wed Nov 01, 2017 10:45 pm
Hello,

This is my first post. I'm somewhat new to Linux, and fairly new to DigiKam. Having said that, I really like DK partly because it's pretty intuitive. The one thing that's got me is sorting Albums. My albums are sorting in descending order, no matter what I do.

I went to View>Sort Albums, and check By folder. However, I can't find where you specify ascend/descend for Albums (or folders) The pictures within each folder sort as I want (Ascending by Date), but not the Albums. What am I missing? I'm hoping that there is some esoteric setting that I missed on setup.

Digikam is 4.12.0, and I'm on Mint 18.2.

Thanks,

If you are referring to the Tree View, the sort order is changed by using the Up/Down arrow at the top of the panel.

You're using quite an old version of digikam, later versions have an group sorting order. (Unsure when it was introduced, I'm using 5.7.0)

Thank you for that. It's embarassingly obvious, now that I see it. I must have clicked it by mistake, and just never figured it out.

Yes, I noticed from visiting the DK website that my version is older. Result of installing from the built-in packages, I'm guessing. Is there an easy way to update software in Linux?

Just tonight, a recent update to Windows 10 on my laptop convinced it's time to drop Microsoft altogether. I also installed Mint, and then DK. Same version, but shockingly, it sorts the correct way.

Thanks again.

No problem... and I've had my share of the embarrassingly obvious too :)

Software update methods vary depending upon the package in question. I'm not familiar with Mint, but I believe it's a recent release. Using the "official" Mint packages then digikam will only update to a newer version when the (Mint) packagers decide to.

If you want to update digikam to the latest version, this https://www.askmetutorials.com/2017/09/ ... -1604.html guide shows how to.

The PPA method is probably the easiest way to go. That particular repository (ppa:philip5/extra) is maintained by one of the developers/contributors to digikam and as such can be regarded as quite "safe" to use.

Thanks again. The ppa link worked fine, and I now have version 5.5. It did leave the old version, but that was easy enough to remove.
