limitation of batch rename function

Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:40 pm
I have encountered a significant limitation in the batch rename function of digiKam. Based on recommendations in The DAM Book by Peter Krogh I am renaming all images in my collection with a unique six digit numeric identifier prefixed with my 3 initials to identify them as my collection. I have discovered that the number function under rename will only accommodate 2 digits. I thought I could work around that and simply enter hard copy of the first 4 digits and that wouldn't be too bad. I rename up to ****99 and then try to increment the last * value and proceed again starting at 00. It is not as simple as that because the number function will not allow me to start at 00. I have to rename a single file ****00 before I can start the next sequence at 01. The other issue is that the batch rename seems to crash if I try to rename more than about 15 or 20 images at once.

Any comments or suggestions about this issue would be gratefully accepted. Thanks

Have not used Digikam for some time but an option would be to use (install) Krename which is a very good program and allows a wide range of renaming types.
