How to play MP4 video on Fedora 31

Fri May 08, 2020 8:33 pm
I can't seem to find any advice on how to play MP4 files in Digikam while on Fedora 31. Is this possible? I've seen an old forum thread that asked the same thing, but didn't get an answer either. Do I need to compile from source? Not adverse to trying, but without concrete documentation that this would even be the way to go, I'd like to find a better solution.

Currently I've installed digikam via dnf and am running: digikam-6.4.0-2.fc31.x86_64

Is Fedora my issue? Not really wanting to go back to Windows.

I've installed the required multimedia plugins as described here: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/qu ... and-music/

Should this page have a disclaimer? Because it seems like there are exceptions as the "preview mode" and thumbnails don't seem to work.
https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/extragea ... rmats.html

Seems like such an obvious and key feature would have better support ???

Hi all,

as a solution for all still running agains this issue, the answer is very simple.

Due to the fact mp4 codecs are not part of the Fedora distribution, the digikam package is not compile with FFMPEG support.

The solution for this is to download the digikam source RPM, ensure SPEC has actived MEDIASUPPORT :
"-DENABLE_MEDIAPLAYER:BOOL=ON"

Then compile the package and install.

After digikam supports video like a charm :)

Best Regards.
