Thank you in advance for your help.
I have a Cannon PowerShotA560, KDE 4.3.2 on Karmic. I plugged in the camera, expecting the OS to find it and ask me what I wanted to do (like it does with my LaCie 80GB external drive). Nothing happened. I cycled the power on the camera, then on the computer to no effect. I found the "Digital Camera" utility in "System Setings -> Advanced". The camera shows up here, but I can't effectively change any of the settings, and still doesn't mount. Thanks again. John |

Try running digiKam manually and see if it prompts you regarding it.

digikam works ( I had to download it, which makes me wonder why it isn't native ). But I prefer the file browser as an interface. There's no way to do that with KDE?

You could try running "dolphin camera:/"

That lets me explore the camera, but I can't see any pictures. I suppose I don't take enough pictures for it to be a big deal. Thank you so much for your help.

The camera:/ Slave should allow you to access the photos on the camera and copy them off.

I guess I just wasn't patient enough. I know there has to be a way to have this as one of the autorun options. I'm going to go see if I can add it to the list.

This should work out of the box from KDE 4.3 onwards at the very least.
Note that an improved Device Action editor is part of KDE SC 4.4, which fixes many of the errors generated by the 4.3 version.

Definitely doesn't work on my box. I haven't been able to successfully add it as an option either... though now that I've installed digiKam, it offers to open any USB / WireFire device... last night, it even offered to open an audio CD.
Will 4.4 be ready for release with 10.04? |

KDE 4.4 will be released on the 9th Feburary 2010 assuming on delays occur.
It will be up to the Kubuntu team to decide whether to use 4.3.5 or KDE 4.4.0.
