Hi folks,
For obvious reasons ( unity ) I just installed KDE on my desktop computer ( ubuntu - oneiric , 64Bit) last week with the latest updates. I have a problem importing my camera ( Canon IXUS 310). When I plug it in, KDE recognizes it and let me choose whether I want to open it in gwenview or digikam. One strange thing is that it does not seem to be able to read the "filesystem" or whatever information the camera provides, because the progress bar showing the disk usage is grey/at zero percent. When I try to open it with gwenview, it states something like "Can not find camera at url camera:/" ( original message is in german). I can open it with digikam. When I click on Import->Cam , digikam shows my camera. However when I click on that a window opens and "freezes" at the same time. I can not close it, I have to kill/terminate digikam. Also When I choose to manually add a cam ( import->cam->add cam manually ) there is no camera. So somehow digikam knows that there is a camera, but can not access it. I don´t think I have to tell that I can not open it using camera:/ . The funny thing is, that I can import pictures using shotwell - for obvious reasons I want to replace that application. dmesg does not report anything strange. Though I have to tell I do not know what I am looking for. I also tried starting digikam over CLI to see if there is some more output, but there isn´t. Does anybody know what the problem is ? I have never had problems with importing photos. Thanks |

Which KDE version do you use? I suspect you have the old version of Kubuntu, which is rather outdated. I suggest you activate the kubuntu-backports and update PPA to get newer version. Especially Digikam has had at least 2 releases since Kubuntu 11.10 was released.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Thanks for the info of out-dated packages.
So I enabled the backports and upgrades. Now I am running 4.8.0. However the error persists - nothing has changed. Any further hints/suggestions ? |

From what I can tell - it seems that libgphoto might be having issues interacting with your Camera.
I gather if you open Konqueror, then enter "camera:/" then that fails as well? If it does, try running this command:
That should return something like:
Once you have that, run (replacing the /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/sda5 with the appropriate UDI path from above), then post the output of that here.

Hi,
yes konqueror is also unable to open camera:/ .
Any thoughts on that ? |

Please run the following commands. You may need to install an extra package if needed.
If this succeeds, then it may indicate a bug in the camera:/ interface KDE uses, otherwise it likely indicates either a bug with libgphoto2 or the camera's implementation of PTP (which gphoto2 implements).

It seems that there is a bug in KDE inteface for camera:/
because the commands work as expected(at last this is what I think from the output) Please see the attached file containing the stdout of these commands. gphoto2 reports some unknown things.... I am not sure, but I used this flash-card before in a earlier ixus. The IXUS 310 is unable to play those files. This it could be that the camera does not recognize the video files and this is causing these messages. However list-files works as expected. Thank you. I am not sure whether I do not to file a bug report or provide further information necessary to comprehend the error. Should I ? Thanks EDIT: there seem to be no possibility to attach files. So I posted it here: http://pastebin.com/rrny51Ld . The messages are localized. If necessary I could also cange the language and provide them in English |

Okay, you may wish to look at http://gphoto.org/doc/manual/using-gphoto2.html as a temporary workaround.
Please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org regarding this, including your version of KDE and version of libgphoto2 which you have installed (you can check this in your package manager)

Hi bcooksley,
downloading the files with gphoto2 works. Thank you very much. I will file a bug report on the weekend. |
