Sorry for this question but I only find outdated or insufficient infomation on this:

When I setup korganizer I don't have any default calendar. (I don't know why - there has been one in the past...)
So I like to set up a new empty calendar. But I am not sure about the best agent for this. In some documentations it says to use the akonadi calendar source. Well, there is none of that name... do I have to install additional stuff?

What is the default choice of calendar source agent for a new calendar?

The second question is where to find the files? If this calendar source does use akonadi then it's probably not using an ics file (I might be wrong here)... so where is the default akonadi calendar source located?

The default calendar is an ical resource ("ICal Calendar file") with the path set to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics . But you can set that path to anything you like.
That also should answer your question about where to find the files...

And yes, that's a standard ics file. But you can also use other resource types, if you want to. (like "ICal Calendar Folder", f.e.)

I know this thread is a little old, but it was extremely useful to me! The documentation is very out of date, and the current options are named very oddly.

I would have thought that the "normal" local calendar to select would be the "KDE calendar (traditional)", just based on the name. I found the reference to iCal to be confusing. I thought it had something to do with integration with Apple computers!

I now know that iCalendar is a format, but I think I was further confused because KOrganizer refers to it as iCal (which is the Apple program), not iCalendar. Perhaps that option should be renamed as "local storage" or "local calendar", since I think that focusing on the format is not the most pertinent. (It could be parenthesised after the title.)
