Pencil-in feature?

Fri Apr 04, 2014 1:29 pm
I looked for, but could not find, I pencil-in feature in KOrganizer. A lot of times I'll propose a meeting with someone and I want that time block reserved for him or her until I hear back. If I used a pencil-in feature, the time slot would be reserved, but would be a different color such as gray or beige so that I can quickly see at a glance which appointments are pencil-ins and which are firm.

I did not find the feature. Is it in there? If not, how does one go about suggesting a feature?

Edit: Is this post on the KOrganizer forum? That's where I meant to put it.

I think you could use the categories tag for this, when adding a new event click on categories and create "pencil-in" then in settings -> colors & fonts -> categories -> select pencil-in and then choose a color

pencil-in events should now be identifiable by it's color and when hovered over

A great idea. Unfortunately, I'm not all the way there yet. I figured out how to add a category:
Settings ==> Add a Catogory ==> Add
However, I'm stumped on how to assign a color to that category. You say "settings -> colors & fonts -> categories -> select pencil-in and then choose a color". However, I'm not finding that. When I pull down the Settings menu, don't find "colors and fonts." When I edit the event, I don't find any way to change a category's color either.

My understanding is that this is a standard functionality within Korganizer http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdepim/ko ... lors-fonts

are you running an old version of KDE? does the settings appear for a new user?

Success! Problem solved. I must have a slightly different version of KOrganizer. The menus to get there are:
Settings ==> Configure KOrganizer ==> Categories
And then choose colors.

Thanks for your help.

Hi all,

I'm also having problems assigning colours to categories. Like Luke I go to settings/KOrganiser/Colours ... assign a colour to a particular category, click apply/okay and exit. When I restart Kontact I find that the category colour has reverted back to the default pale green ... for all categories.

Is there something I am missing to make the category colours stay as I want them to be?

Thanks,
Adam.

It's a bug, Adam. :( I've reported it. Perhaps you would be willing to add your two cents to the report. You'll find it here:

That way they know I'm not crazy.
