I wanted to create a notification that would appear in my Calendar

I created an event in KOrganiser and it appears in the calendar, but I would now like to edit the event.
On viewing KOrganiser, I cannot see any event in the month, day and year where I created the event!

Please advise.

In the first sentence you write that the event appears, in the second you write that it doesn't?
What now?

You should be able to edit an event by double-clicking on it, or right-clicking and choosing "Edit" in the context menu.

Do you have a calendar activated, i.e. is there a tick mark in front of at least one in the bottom-left list of calendars?

Right-click on your calendar and select "Calendar Properties".
Is a file set there? (the default should be ~/.kde/share/applications/korganizer/std.ics or similar)
Is the file writable and does the corresponding folder exist?

The personal calendar was not activated, no tick. I have now ticked the box

I assume that I will have have to repeat the exercise, but why was the event noted in the calendar associated with the clock in the bottom widget bar (bottom right hand corner)?

I see the std.ics file and it is writeable

So the events should now be stored in that calendar.

It is a long-standing issue (a bug IMHO) that new calendars (and also addressbooks) are not activated automatically, not even the default ones.

Good question.
Actually, KOrganizer should not even allow you to add an event without setting a calendar.

The clock calendar widget doesn't care whether a calendar is activated in KOrganizer or not though, I think. IIANM it displays events of all calendars.

Things seem to be working.

A few points:

When the 'All day' box is clicked does this mean that no other events during that day can be included?
What happens if I set a reminder, does the clock in the tray (associated with a calendar) start flashing, beeping, or something else?
I have calendar on my wall for 2015, it runs from Jan - Dec. Do people have more than one calender in order to book events beyond 12 months?

No. That just means that this event has no start/end time.
Events can overlap though, so you can still add others on the same day.

You can configure that.
By default it shows a dialog with some text.
You can also play an arbitrary audio file, run a program/script, or send an EMail.

Or to have different types of calendars, different storage locations.
E.g. you could have your local "Personal Calendar", and some kind of online calendar.

That's for the planning/collaboration functions it seems. Apparently you can e.g. publish your free/busy state on the Internet and fetch the state from others and such things.

I set up a test event with a text reminder (Display text) every 30mins. It should display today and every 30mins.
So far, nothing has happened, but If I start KOrganizer, the reminder daemon starts. Do I have to start KOrganizer to see any reminders. I was expecting something to happen automatically. After all, if I need to remember to start KOrganizer then I don't need reminders.

I note that I can also be reminded by email. I don't use KMail. I assume that to use this feature, I would need to use this mailer.

The reminder daemon has to be running to get reminders.
If you ever started KOrganizer, korgac (the reminder daemon) should be started automatically on login.

If not, right-click on its icon in the system tray (it might be hidden, so click on the small up-arrow just left to the digital clock to see all icons), and verify that "Start on Login" and "Enable Reminders" are both activated.

But you would not need to actually use KMail for that, just configure it so that it can send an EMail...

If it's a separate application, it depends whether it allows to directly send a mail via command line. I don't know it (and I only find a mobile app on their home page) so I cannot tell.

I did mean yahoo mail, that is, it is a webmailer

I am reluctant to use Kmail because I do not want to store mail on my machine.

My tests were successful.
