New install of Ubuntu 8.04 on Dell Latitude D430 laptop

Installed kdenlive from Ubuntu repository

It doesn't show up on any menu and when I try to start in manually, I get the following...

(It does start the 'new installation' dialog but crashes after displaying the editor window (briefly).

mark@mark-who-laptop:/usr/bin$ kdenlive

I can confirm this, same messages. It is not possible to start kdenlive even after deleting all configs. It crashes right after selecting Videoformat.

Also confirmed, Ubuntu 8.04 on a Toshiba A75-2291.

Worked with few issues on 7.04 + 7.10, so not sure what happened with this release. Possibly related to the PulseAudio crashes + issues hounding everything else?

You could try removing the kdenliverc file (/home/YOURLOGIN/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc), which helped.

The program re-generates a new one when it is not present.

I'm using the SVN version with pulseaudio disabled. I still have some problems, but it is better than the packages provided by ubuntu.

As i said above, it also crashes with config removed prior to starting kdenlive. It doesnt matter what i do - it just won't start. Using Kubuntu 8.04 fresh install with nvidia propriety driver. No error messages, no log entries. The machine is:

Asus P4P800 mobo, 2GiG DDR RAM, P4 HT 2.8Ghz, 2x500GB SATA-II Harddrives, Nvidia XFX GF7900GS 512MB DDR3 Video-RAM, 2xTFT 1280x1024 in Cinerama Setting 2560x1024

maybe it is of any help

I too have this same error. Any word on a solution yet?

Well, I solved it for my case. Here's what I did:

1. Install KDE-base through synaptic (and a bunch of other files necessary for KDE desktop)

2. Logout and login into KDE instead of Gnome - choose, just this session.

3. Delete the ~/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc file

4. start kdenlive and answer the default format question

5. Logout and then back into Gnome.

Kdenlive now works!

Now I have to see how much KDE I can remove and still have it work.
