I'm desperate to use this wonderful tool (Kdenlive) but cannot, for I cannot get any audio. My situation is as follows:

The clips I am using are from a Sanyo Xacti MP4. The audio in these clips is mp4a

as reported by ffplay -stats. 48hz stereo.

The Clip Properties, in Kdenlive, says Audio: None.

The clips do play sound in Totem Movie Player and vlc.

The clips do *not* play sound in ffplay.

I'm running 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon ubuntu.

libfaad2-0 is installed.

No matter what I do, on taking a clip into Kdenlive, the clip properties reports Audio:None.

(I have left the Hardware Audio setting in Kdenlive to Automatic)

Hope someone out there can help me.
