frei0r

Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:22 am

I have installed the latest version of Kdenlive under Kubuntu 9.04 beta. The install worked great right out of the repos. But frei0r breaks it. If frei0r is installed on my system, well when kdenlive don't start. I installed frei0r from the repository. Just wanted to report that.

I have to admit that this happens with me, too. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04, but I have the libraries for KDE4 and QT.

I'm having the same issue, on ubuntu 9.04 (official release, no beta). Kdenlive won't start when frei0r is installed, but I need frei0r for the contrast effect...

Starting kdenlive from the command line gives this output:

kdenlive(4553) MainWindow::parseProfiles: RESULTING MLT PATH:  "/usr/share/mlt/profiles/"

KCrash: Application 'kdenlive' crashing...

sock_file=/home/architeuthis/.kde/socket-architeuthis/kdeinit4__0

I hope this issue gets fixed soon.

I installed the kdenlive dbg package. When I try to run kdenlive (frei0r) installed, I get this output:

Deze backtrace is onbruikbaar.

Mogelijk zijn uw KDE-pakketten gemaakt op een wijze die verhindert dat er goede backtraces kunnen worden aangemaakt, of de stack frame was flink beschadigd tijdens het vastlopen van het programma.

The text in Dutch on top says: this backtrace is unusable, probably your kde were made in such a way that making proper backtraces is impossible, or the stack frame was damaged during the crash.

Anyone any idea concerning this?

Thanks for the response,

but unfortunately none of those work arounds seem to work for me, I have the exact same issue with every work around.

I wish I  knew, still can't use kdenlive properly...

I tried the fore mentioned work arounds again by completely removing, kdenlive and frei0r, the kdenlive directory, and the .kde directory.

Then I ran the kdnelive startup wizard, before installing the frei0r packages. But again it didn't work.

Some help on this frustrating issue would be really helpfull...

An easy, simple fix - at least until your frei0r package is next updated - is to locate the offending frei0r plugin in /usr/lib/frei0r-1 and sudo rm it. This might be time consuming but you could rename frei0r-1, make a new dir, and move the plugins into it one-at-a-time until it crashes.

Thanks for the reply!

The problem seems to be with the "facedetect.so" plugin. Removing this one stops the startup crash.
